Liberals Vs. Conservatives on Morality

I randomly stumbled on a lecture on the difference between liberals and conservatives. It said that liberals are higher on the personality trait openness to experience.

It discussed the moral backgrounds of liberals and conservatives, and while they all hold the same five values, the two groups emphasize certain ones more. The five “foundations of morality” are Harm/Care, Fairness/Reciprocity, Authority/Respect, In-group/Loyalty, and Purity/Sanctity. The lecture said that Liberals highly value harm/care and fairness/reciprocity over the other values, and conservatives highly value authority/respect, in-group/loyalty and purity/sanctity.

I thought it was really interesting when the speaker compared liberals and conservatives to the yin and yang, and the gods Vishnu and Shiva of Hinduism. It’s interesting to think that the two create a perfect balance between change and stability.
